GAU Foundation School Holds a Reading Competition

English Foundation School Summer Programme

Registration for the GAU English Foundation School Summer programme will be between 16 -18 June and lessons will start on 21 June. Along with the intensive course, there will be English film shows, trips, laboratory activities and trips to Camelot beach. During the summer school, the school’s attendance policy, requiring at least 85 % attendance, will be applied. The summer programme will end with the English Proficiency Exam on Monday, 2 August. Exam results will be announced on Wednesday 4 August on the Foundation School website.

The mid-term exam results for Level B and IELTS

The Mid-term exam for Level B and IELTS students was administered on the 13th of April 2010 at 10:00. 185 students sat the exam which was composed of Listening, Reading and Writing. The Foundation English School’s exam results for level B and IELTS students are available online now.

The final exam results for Level A students

The Final exam for Level A was administered on the 13th of April 2010 at 10:00. 38 students sat the exam which was composed of Listening, Reading and Writing. The Foundation English School’s exam results for level A are available online now.

Girne American University 2nd Annual ELT Conference

On the 6th of April 2010 Girne American University, Foundation English School organized the 2nd ELT Conference in cooperation with OUP. The opening speech was given by the Head of FES Ferdiye Ersoy and welcomed the participants with a general overview of the theme of the conference, with her speech “Investment in ELT”. Following Ferdiye Ersoy’s speech, GAU Vice Rector Dr. Sadık Ülker welcomed all the participants and talked about the importance of this kind of academic gathering. This was followed by a highly informative and entertaining presentation by ELT author and teacher trainer, Teresa Doğuelli.

In the second session, well known ELT author, teacher trainer and frequent visitor to GAU, Paul Seligson enlightened the participants with new insights into the teachers’ perennial problem of the correction of students’ written work in his presentation, “Correction that works… a teacher’s dream”.

The afternoon saw a session of eight concurrent workshops loosely based around the theme of “Student Investment in ELT”. The workshops were highly practical and well attended. The academic atmosphere was lightened by the “Surprise Draw” where an array of prizes were won by lucky participants. The day was rounded off with closing remarks by Paul Seligson on the theme of “Encouraging Learner Independence and Interdependence”.

Immediate feedback from the participants suggested that the conference was both well received and fruitful.
